Maaike Canne - La Grande Motte

From the very anthropomorphic Rotterdam, Maaike Canne observes what people do with their time and materials. Once she's had a good look, she transcribes onto her canvas or tablet the most abrupt springs, the most astonishing achievements of these buildings, furniture and decorations with which mankind has filled its living spaces. But in between, the time spent in the brain makes the beast grind. And what appears on canvas is not devoid of subjectivity. Maaike Canne never fails to add a little piece of her own, through the brilliance of her colors, the juxtaposition of her shapes or the incongruity of her perspective. The result is a dialogue between the art of meticulous reproduction and personal impulse.
