Thomas Merceron is a great composer. He picks, mixes and matches the tools of drawing to build his vision of an art that plays on transport and disorientation. By mobilizing deep blacks, volatile textures and sharp strokes, he sets to music parallel dimensions where everything intersects, decay as much as hope, darkness as well as light. Thanks to this strange visual music, the illustrator sends us to these otherworldly places, which are not real at all, but very real. For while the ENSAD Paris graduate's characters and forms wander through territories we've never seen before, the effects on the viewer are very real. Effective and dreamlike, Thomas Merceron's works immediately project the viewer into a nostalgia without hold, an impossible memory and a reflection that is then purely abstract. The resulting emotions produce a melody whose effects are palpable.
