Summary:
Listening only to their courage, the duo composed of the illustrator Simon Bournel-Bosson and the journalist Maxime Gueugneau set off to discover an exceptional humus: the "Diagonale du Vide", a not very shiny name for a quarter of the French territory. Indeed, this fictitious line - debatable and disputed - joins areas with low population density on an almost continuous route from the Ardennes to the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. This has earned it the disdain and profound ignorance of the rest of France. The aim was twofold: to fight against the ignorance of these territories and obviously to have as much fun as possible. Simon and Maxime therefore faced the winds and the tides, but above all the motorway areas, the dubious bars, the student parties, the pickle merchants, the nuns' corpses, the sandwich shops, the tex-mex, the ghosts and other sacred can shops to convince themselves that there was nothing "empty" in this diagonal. In four stages going from Saint-Dizier to Pau, over nearly 1000km, passing through Auxerre, Commentry, Vézelay, Montluçon, Bar-sur-Aube, Tulle, Uzerche, Tarbes or Lourdes, the two loulous lived quite a few adventures that they are happy to tell us in text and pictures. Initially published in Kiblind magazine during the 2016-2017 season, the four reports that make up the book have been reviewed, corrected and enhanced with new texts, crisp information and exclusive illustrations. The whole was printed by hand at the Kiblind Workshop on a Risography machine.
The Authors:
Little Simon was born in 1987 and grew up in several towns in central France, in the Bourbonnais area. Life led him little by little to Paris where he now lives. After studying applied arts at La Martinière-Diderot in Lyon, he joined the beautiful Kiblind Agency (ex-Klar) and Kiblind magazine to become artistic director until 2017. Graphic designer, illustrator (and sometimes dancer in his spare time) he has worked not without pretension for Stylist, Arte Creative and Ed Banger, among others.
Maxime was born in 1986 in Dijon, the city where the weather is always very nice. But, life being strewn with pitfalls, he grew up in Lyon, becoming a true Lyonnais. Graduated from the University of Avignon and the Pays du Vaucluse in Information and Communication, Kiblind opens his arms to him and holds his heart for him since 2010 as a journalist. He contributes in extra and sometimes to Trax Magazine, Retard, Sottises, La Revue du Cube, etc... You can hear his sweet voice every week on Nova Lyon and every two months on LYL.
