Lynn Lehmann and Dennis Gärtner don't bother with embellishments. Which is not to say that they say no to embellishments. But these must be as simple and percussive as possible, like the central elements of the painting. This is because the duo practice sport at a professional level: graphic boxing is their big business. Whether it's a series of carpets in collaboration with the Moroccan cooperative Tighlamin, or their frequent interventions on Berlin walls, their works are bound to jump out at the viewer and immediately deliver a pair of visual slaps in the face. This they do rather well, thanks to a panoply of imposing shapes and piquant colors that they combine to take the viewer by the scruff of the neck. A jab and you're out.
